Perfume: The Story Of A Murderer

MA a

Starring
Ben Whishaw, Alan Rickman, Rachel Hurd-Wood

Director
Tom Tykwer

Year
2006

Genre
Thriller

Synopsis
Based on the best-selling Patrick Suskind novel, Tom Tykwer directs this tale of a deadly obsession set in 18th century France. BAFTA winner Tykwer also directed Run Lola Run and Paris j'taime.

Ben Whishaw (Layer Cake) stars as Jean-Baptiste Grenouille, an orphan alone in the world, but blessed with a remarkable gift; a refined sense of smell. When he is sold into servitude to a tannery and surrounded by the foul odours that accompany his labour, he discovers, by chance, the object that will transform his life: perfume. Grenouille believes the path to success lies in his discovery of an intoxicating scent and he will go to any lengths to capture the final ingredient for his greatest essence: innocence.

Support cast includes Alan Rickman, Dustin Hoffman and Rachel Hurd-Wood (Peter Pan).
