Synopsis
Oscar-winners Dame Judi Dench and Cate Blanchett are a tour-de-force in this Oscar-nominated psychological thriller as two women caught up in a drama of need and betrayal.

The twists and turns of the story are noted in the acerbic diary of Barbara Covett (Dench), a domineering and solitary teacher whose world changes with the arrival of the new art teacher, Sheba Hart (Blanchett). But when Barbara discovers Sheba is having an affair with a young student, their relationship takes an ominous turn as Barbara threatens to expose Sheba's terrible secret bringing her own secrets and dark obsessions to the fore, exposing the deceptions at the core of each of the women's lives.

TRIVIA: Cate Blanchett, Judi Dench and Anne-Marie Duff have all played Queen Elizabeth I; the LP that Steven picks up in Sheba's workshop is "Kaleidoscope" by Siouxsie and the Banshees (1980).
