The Final Winter

M l

Starring
Matt Nable, Nathaniel Dean, Matthew Johns

Director
Jane Forest

Year
2007

Genre
Drama

Synopsis
Matt Nable writes, producers and acts in this tale of courage and determination, which he originally wrote as a novel in 1995. As the winds of change sweep across the rugby league landscape, Grub Henderson (Nable) defiantly stands among all others as the embodiment of those before him. Foreign codes of business are tearing at the fabric of loyalty that exists between Grub's club and family.

He collides head on with an administration eager to bury him, and battles against his brother and coach's betrayal. At home his wife is troubled by the transformation of her husband, and his children are left wanting his attention.

The cast includes Raelee Hill, Nathaniel Dean, John Jarratt and Matthew Johns, ex Newcastle Knights player, in his first film role. There's an excellent Australian music soundtrack with Eurogliders, Radiators, The Angels, Spy vs Spy and Richard Clapton.

TRIVIA:
The Three Scallywags production company was set up by Nable and Anthony Coffey, two ex-footballers, and Brian Andrews, an ex basketball player and musician. None of them had previous film experience; filming took place in and around the Sydney suburb of Marrickville.
