Starring Richard Gere, Helen Hunt, Kate Hudson, Liv Tyler
Director Robert Altman
Year 2000
Genre Comedy Drama
Synopsis In this star-studded Robert Altman comedy, Richard Gere is Dr. Sullivan Travis, a successful Dallas gynaecologist whose carefully controlled life is challenged by chaos and confusion.
Travis is steadily losing ground to his overbooked schedule, despite the best efforts of his devoted nurse (Shelley Long). At home, his wife Kate (Farrah Fawcett) has regressed into a childlike state just as wedding plans for daughter Dee Dee (Kate Hudson) are shifting into high gear. Dr. T's champagne-loving sister-in-law Peggy (Laura Dern) has moved in, while conspiracy buff daughter Connie (Tara Reid) is sounding the alarm about Dee Dee's maid of honour (Liv Tyler).
Overwhelmed, the doc begins spending more time at the golf course, with easygoing golf pro Bree (Helen Hunt).
Director Robert Altman brings it all together in a surprise, gale-force Texas ending.
TRIVIA: The first major Hollywood feature movie to show a medically explicit scene of a baby being born; reportedly inspired by the Book of Job; Lyle Lovett's first film score; Richard Gere later admitted that he didn't understand the finale until preview audiences explained it to him.
