Synopsis
In this Emmy-nominated story, based on the play by Lorraine Hansberry, an African-American family struggles with poverty, racism, and inner conflict as they strive for a better way of life. Focussing on the working-class Younger family, it tells of their dreams of leaving behind the run-down tenement apartment where they have lived for many years.

Sean Combs stars as Walter, who dreams of making his fortune; Sanaa Lathan stars as his sister, Beneatha, a somewhat flighty college student who embraces the "back to Africa" philosophy of a Nigerian friend, Joseph Asagai (David Oyelowo); The Cosby's Show's Phylicia Rashad brings a quiet dignity to the family's matriarch, Lena, who dreams of buying a home.
