Synopsis Roy Scheider stars in this fast-paced, gripping thriller as LA police pilot Frank Murphy, who is hand-picked by his boss to test an experimental attack helicopter called Blue Thunder.
Murphy is amazed by its ability to see through walls, record a whisper or level a city block. But when he uses the craft's high-tech equipment to record a meeting in which Blue Thunder's secret destiny is revealed to be the ultimate weapon in illegal domestic surveillance and crowd control, Murphy is targeted for elimination.

TRIVIA: The television control room shown early in the film is the same control room set seen extensively in The China Syndrome (1979); the helicopter used to portray Blue Thunder was a French-made Gazelle helicopter with bolt-on parts to change its appearance; Frank Murphy drives a 1979 TransAm; the F-16 models were built by Gregory Jein (uncredited), famous for his science-fiction models for Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977), Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979) and Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977).
