Director Alex Cox
Year 1984
Genre Science Fiction
Synopsis Alex Cox directs what is now a considered a classic punk fable where Emilio Estevez stars as Otto, a newly hired repossession man who somehow becomes the partner of Bud, an old hand in the repo business, portrayed by the wonderful Harry Dean Stanton.
Otto then becomes swept up in a web of intrigue concerning a huge repossession bounty on a 1964 Chevy Malibu. Bizarre events ensue leading Otto and Bud to an encounter with what seem to be beings from space.
This off-beat film has a little of everything: action, comedy, urban decay, police drama, mystery, government conspiracy and even UFO's! A cult classic!
The excellent eclectic soundtrack includes Iggy Pop, Suicidal Tendencies, Black Flag, Louis Armstrong and The Andrews Sisters.
TRIVIA: All the repo men (except Otto) are named after beers; all cars (plus the police motorcycle) have pine tree air fresheners; the Repo Man's code is based on an amalgamation of wisdom given to director Alex Cox when he was serving in real life as a repo man; graffiti behind the punks dancing in the alley says "Circle Jerks", which is the name of the band which appears later in the film; the song that Otto sings as he walks away from the train tracks and drinks beer is "TV Party" by Black Flag.
