M a
Starring Goldie Hawn, Chevy Chase, Dudley Moore
Director Colin Higgins
Year 1978
Genre Comedy
Synopsis Writer/director Colin Higgins (Nine to Five) mixes life-and-death melodrama with broad slapstick in this bizarre, Hitchcockian comedy starring Goldie Hawn as a kooky (which she does very well) divorcee privy to an assassination plot against the Pope.
Chevy Chase (Fletch) is the Federal Agent on the case offering dubious aid and comfort with an all-star supporting cast including Dudley Moore's sleazy conductor, Chuck McCann's retro theatre manager, Rachel Roberts and Eugene Roche as villains and Burgess Meredith.
TRIVIA: The opera being performed in the climactic scenes is "The Mikado" by Gilbert and Sullivan; adapted in 1981 into a short-lived television series starring Barry Bostwick and Deborah Raffin.
