Director Edward Zwick
Year 1996
Genre Action
Synopsis Oscar winner Edward Zwick directs Oscar winner Denzel Washington as a Persian Gulf tank commander who is under investigation, assigned to review another officer's candidacy for a posthumous medal. He discovers something even more important than honour - that the truth is always the first casualty of war.
In reliving Karen Walden's (Meg Ryan) story, which unfolds through a series of flashbacks, Serling confronts the demons of his own nightmare in the Gulf.
Support cast includes Lou Phillips, Matt Damon, Scott Glenn and Michael Moriarty.
TRIVIA: The tanks are British Centurions with sheet metal added to make them look like M1A1 Abrams tanks; they were shipped from Australia when the US Department of Defence withdrew their cooperation; the basic concept of the movie is borrowed from Rashomon (1950); Matt Damon lost 40 pounds for his role in the movie.
