Waterworld
M vl
Starring Kevin Costner, Dennis Hopper, Jeanne Tripplehorn
Director Kevin Reynolds
Year 1995
Genre Action
Synopsis Oscar-winner Kevin Costner stars in this post-apocalyptic adventure that takes us to a future Earth that is completely flooded after the melting of the polar ice caps, as a lone maverick that helps a mother (Jeanne Tripplehorn) and her daughter flee from a band of nomadic terrorists. Oscar-nominee Dennis Hopper delivers another brilliantly villainous performance as the leader of this tribe of travelling warriors.
Based on a 1986 screenplay by Peter Rader, Waterworld was an epic vehicle for Costner, who also co-produced the film, and cost an estimated US$235 million, more than any film in history up to that time.
Trivia: rumours abound that director Kevin Reynolds walked off the set with two weeks of filming left, and Kevin Costner completed the film; prior to Titanic (1997), this was the most expensive movie ever produced; Kevin Costner was on the set 157 days, working 6 days a week; the language Kevin Costner speaks to the lemon-stealing drifter early in the movie is Hindi.
