Blankman
M va
Starring Damon Wayans, Robin Givens, Jason Alexander
Director Mike Binder
Year 1994
Genre Comedy
Synopsis Damon Wayans stars as Darryl Walker, a bright but socially inept man with a gift for inventing things, with little skill for functioning in the real world. Darryl's brother Kevin (David Alan Grier) works on a low-class tabloid news show and secretly loves the beautiful anchorwoman Kimberley (Robin Givens).
The Walkers live in Metro City, Illinois, a city plagued with a massive crime wave after the mayor is kidnapped by gangsters. Darryl builds a collection of crime-fighting robots from household junk, invents bullet-proof long underwear and becomes Metro City's newest crime fighter. But how long can a superhero with no superpowers last against the forces of organised crime?
Damon Wayans wrote the original story for Blankman as well as co-writing the screenplay and playing the title role, partly based on his "Handi-Man" character from the TV comedy series In Living Colour.
Support cast includes Christopher Lawford (son of actor Peter Lawford), Jon Polito, Damon Wayans Jr and watch for Jason Alexander as sleazy newsman Mr Stone.
TRIVIA: Greg Kinnear's feature film debut.
