Synopsis
Oscar nominees Greg Kinnear and Toni Collette star in this hilarious comedy as stressed out parents whose awkward seven-year-old daughter, Olive, is invited to compete in a beauty pageant. Piling into their rusted-out VW bus, the Hoover family embark on a tragicomic journey filled with madcap surprises, changing the entire misfit family in ways they could never imagine.

Support cast includes Alan Arkin, in his Oscar-winning performance as a horny, heroin-happy grandfather, Steve Carell as a suicidal genius and Paul Dano as the Nietzsche-reading son who has taken a vow of silence.

Trivia: Dwayne's full name is never mentioned in the movie; Abigail Breslin wore a fat suit for the part of Olive; the drawing on Dwayne's T-shirt is the face of Big Brother from the 1956 film version of George Orwell's 1984; the girls acting as participants in the "Little Miss Sunshine" beauty pageant were veterans of real beauty pageants; Steve Carell, at the time he was cast, was a relative unknown in Hollywood.
