Jaws
M v
Starring Roy Scheider, Richard Dreyfuss, Robert Shaw
Director Steven Spielberg
Year 1975
Genre Action
Synopsis Oscar nominee Roy Scheider stars as the police chief with a huge problem in Steven Spielberg's career-launching, Oscar-winning mega-hit where brutal shark attacks are threatening the summer tourist season on Amity Island Resort.
Three men, a grizzled old shark hunter (Robert Shaw), a police chief (Scheider) and a marine biologist (Richard Dreyfuss), go after the beast and end up fighting for their lives with a Great White Pointer. The distinctive theme from Jaws has become so entrenched in popular culture, you run for cover whenever you hear it!
The late Robert Shaw stars at the shark hunter and Richard Dreyfuss as the marine biologist with support from Lorraine Gary and Carl Gottlieb.
TRIVIA: Steven Spielberg took Martin Scorsese, George Lucas and John Milius to visit the effects shop where "Bruce" the shark was being constructed. Lucas stuck his head in the shark's mouth and, as a joke, Milius and Spielberg sneaked to the controls and made the jaw clamp shut on Lucas' head, where it became stuck; the live shark footage was shot at Seal Rocks (Neptune Islands), South Australia; author Peter Benchley was thrown off the set after objecting to the climax.
