Starring Steve Martin, Liam Neeson, Debra Winger
Director Richard Pearce
Year 1992
Genre Comedy Drama
Synopsis In a tour-de-force performance Golden Globe nominee Steve Martin stars as Reverend Jonas Nightengale, a fraudulent faith healer who knows how to work a crowd and a con.
Aided by his no-nonsense manager, Jane (Debra Winger), the Reverend relies heavily on her skills with smoke and mirrors to perform his wonders. But when the tour bus breaks down in impoverished Rustwater, Kansas, Jonas finds you can't fool all of the people all of the time and making a believer out of the beautiful sceptic, Marva (Lolita Davidovich) is going to take a real miracle, while the alluring Jane tries to persuade the local sheriff (Liam Neeson) not to close the show.
With its heart warming spirit and rousing soundtrack, which includes Patti LaBelle, Lyle Lovett and Meatloaf, Leap of Faith is a movie that will make you stand up and cheer.
Trivia: the song Jonas is listening to in his car is 'Paradise by the Dashboard Light', by Meat Loaf. Meat plays the part of the bus driver, Hoover; Jonas's "mind-reading" trick using a small radio, loosely follows the exploits of televangelist Peter Popoff, who did a very similar trick with his wife at the microphone.
