The Blues Brothers
M l
Starring John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, John Candy, Carrie Fisher
Director John Landis
Year 1980
Genre Comedy
Synopsis Laughs and outrageous antics abound in this action-packed spectacular from acclaimed director John Landis (who also wrote the script with Dan Aykroyd). Hit the road with John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd, as Jake and Elwood Blues, as they set out on a mission from God to save the orphanage they were raised in.
Searching for redemption with no money and only a briefcase full of soul, Jake and Elwood decide to bring their blues band back together and stage a big gig. They find support from blues legends Ray Charles, James Brown, Aretha Franklin and Cab Calloway - which means the film has a rockin' soundtrack.
And they're making enemies everywhere they go; policeman Burton Mercer (John Candy) with a taste for Orange Whips, a mystery woman (Carrie Fisher) and a campervan full of Good Ole Boys. And watch for Steven Spielberg as the Cook County Assessor's Clerk.
It's Trivia overload on this one, but here's just a couple:
Elwood removes his hat three times in the film, his sunglasses are never removed; Jake removes his sunglasses once, but never removes his hat; singer/guitarist Joe Walsh can be seen during the Jailhouse Rock sequence at the end; The Soul Food Cafe was Nate's Deli on Chicago's famed Maxwell Street, it is now a parking lot; every time we see the window in Elwood's apartment a train goes past. Director Cameo: John Landis is the state trooper driving the second car that chases the Bluesmobile through the shopping mall.
