The cloudstreet story combines whimsical fantasy and realism with touches of tragedy. Characters are meshed together by change, vivid and very beautiful imagery, the surreal juxtaposed with the sometimes mundane and trivial. We used inanimate objects throughout the image (ie the house, pig) that move and 'communicate' the tone of cloudstreet.

This is where the key concept lays within the tension of the surreal and mundane. Objects were taken from within the story and from the era and pieced together to communicate an original and arresting image.

By creating a beautiful collaged image using a mixed media approach combining illustration, photography, drawing and a painterly style the intention was to achieve the sublime while evoking an Australian quality with the use of Australian language, words and objects.
